Post Season Overview

After the regular season ends there are several post season tournaments.

SVLL Division Playoffs

At the end of the regular season the AA, AAA, and Majors Divisions each participate in double-elimination playoffs.

For the 2023 season, play-offs run from May 15 - 24th.

District 39 Tournament of Champions (TOC) for AAA and Majors

Tournament of Champions happens after the regular season ends. Winners of the AAA and Majors Division playoffs represent SVLL in the District 39 Tournament of Champions, a double-elimination tournament against the winners of other local leagues in District 39. If your player’s team goes to the TOCs, they will continue play after the regular season ends as long as their team advances.

2023 Tournament of Champions dates & brackets:

Minors (AAA): June 11-21 at San Lorenzo Valley Little League

Majors: June 11-21 at Live Oak Little League

Practices: May 30 - end of Tournament

District 39 All Stars

The All Star Season is separate from the regular season with Tournament scheduled in late June and into early July (depending on age). SVLL All-Star teams are developed by league-age (10, 11, 12 and 13 year old) and draft players who have shown top performance throughout the regular season.  The All-Star Tournament provides higher level competition and Leagues are advised to field their strongest players.

2023 All-Star Tournament dates:

10 year old: June 24 - July 8 at  Capitola/Soquel Little League

11 year old: June 24 - July 8 at Aptos Little League

12 year old: June 24 - July 8 at Santa Cruz Little League

Practices: May 30th - end of Tournament

Throughout the regular season, coaches and managers track players’ performance and identify the strongest candidates for All-Star Tournament play.  Players are selected based on ability, attitude, sportsmanship, coachability, commitment, and availability for the duration of the tournaments and practices.

All-Star team Managers Selection

All-Star team managers are then selected by a SVLL Board of Directors in April.  Managers are chosen based on their proven abilities to coach and manage players, their participation in mandatory training, as well as their readiness and commitment.

Player Availability

Playing on the All-Star team is a significant commitment with near daily practices. Prior to formal selection to an All-Star team, a player must first confirm availability and readiness. With only 12-14 players per team, it is essential that nominated players are ready and available to make the commitment to attend practices and games for the entirety of the All-Star tournament.  Players with lengthy travel plans, out-of-town commitments or other time conflicts throughout June and early July are not considered available.  Additionally, some families may simply not want to have their player considered for nomination.  The SVLL Player Agent will reach out to player families to confirm availability of players in early May.

All-Star team Players’ Vote

Regular season players (aged 10-12) will participate in the player nomination process for the All-Star teams by voting for their top six picks of players (by league age) who they feel should be chosen to an All-Star team.  Players will only vote for their respective age group.  Each player will be offered an anonymous ballot and asked to choose six players.  The four players (per age/team) with the most votes will be nominated to the draft All-Star team roster.

All-Star team Selection

The All-Star teams are formed through a confidential selection process. All players who are available for tournament play are up for consideration in the selection process.  Regular season managers nominate their top players and consult with the All-Star team manager to discuss players’ skills, merits, and readiness.  Players nominated via the players’ vote process are automatically added to the nomination list.  Managers vote on the nominations to identify the top 12-14 players for each All-Star team who are then added to the formal All-Star team roster, pending verification of eligibility.

Verified All-Star team Rosters

After the draft, the SVLL Player Agent works with player families to verify eligibility.  This requires completion of various forms and submission of specific personal documents.  Once this process has been completed for all players, the verified All-Star team rosters are posted on the League website.
