Team Parents

So you volunteered to be Team Parent. Now what?

Generally speaking, the Team Parent helps with the administrative tasks for the team in order to allow the Manager to concentrate on coaching, the players and team development. Don't feel like you have to do it alone. You can absolutely delegate some of these duties to other parents on your team who are willing to help!

ATTEND TEAM PARENT MEETING

  • Attend the SVLL Team Parent meeting (if there is one) and receive the information you need to pass on to the manager, coaches and parents. The league will provide you with the information needed to be the liaison and facilitator of all league activities.

EMAIL PARENTS

  • Send out an email ("Hey I'm the Team Parent") as soon as you can.  You will need to keep parents informed of what's going on with the team as well as with the league.

UNIFORMS

  • The league orders team jerseys and hats (included as part of the registration fee). Managers will be asked to pick up the uniforms and distribute them to the team.
  • The manager will decide what color pants, socks and belt the players should wear. Make sure that families are aware of what items they need to purchase.

SCOREKEEPER, PITCH COUNTER, GAME COORDINATOR AND SNACK SHACK SCHEDULES

  • Make up a schedule for every game and assign the volunteer positions that are needed as either the home or visiting team.
  • You can make a schedule and ask people to sign up, or you can assign dates/roles to people. Either way, it's a good idea to remind people before each game if it's their turn to do a specific job.
  • The home team provides the scorekeeper.
  • The visiting team provides  pitch counter.
  • Snack shack time slots are managed by the league snack shack coordinator.
  • Game coordinator assignments are handled by the board.

AFTER-GAME SNACK SCHEDULE

  • Optional. Once you get your game schedule, pick a team player that will be responsible for bringing snacks that day.
  • You can also buy Snack Shack tickets ($2 each) and hand those out to kids in lieu of doing a snack.
  • Please check with parents to make sure their child doesn't have any food allergies.

PICTURE DAY

  • Pass out picture order forms and inform the families on your team of your scheduled picture time on Opening Day.

TEAM PARTY

  • Organize and plan an end-of-season party for your team. Keep it simple - do a potluck, or just order pizza and have everyone chip in. It's often convenient to arrange a team party right after the last game of the season, depending on the schedule.

MANAGER/COACH APPRECIATION

  • A card signed by the players and families is a nice way to show appreciation for all the hard work that the manager and coaches do during the season.
  • Managers and coaches do not expect gifts, but if your team wants to do that then feel free to organize it.
  • You should poll the parents and decide whether or not to purchase a gift and if so what to get, as well as collect money to purchase the gift.

TROPHIES

  • Optional. If your team would like to do trophies you can collect team money and order them.
  • Brinks Awards (in Santa Cruz) or Wilson Trophies (online) are good options.

FAN WEAR

  • Purchasing fan wear (sweatshirts, tee shirts, etc.) is optional.
  • Choose colors and sizes carefully and check each player's name and number if getting them printed on items.
  • Sport About Graphics (in Soquel) has lots of options.
